Proyecto San Gerardo was started in 2007 to help ''campesino" Costa Ricans learn skills that would help them find better jobs and enable them to stay in the Mt. Chirripo region, one of the most beautiful cloudforest zones of the country. Volunteers from all over the world come to teach English Conversation, Computer Skills and First Aid, as well as support the community website www.sangerardocostarica.com. The project also helps visitors find out more about the community and plan their vacations via the website, which helps build wealth in the community; and provides a scholarship for young people to continue their high school education.
We hope to continue attracting great volunteers to lead our classes as well as support the priorities of women and youth in our region. Supporting small business ventures by teaching the necessary skills and marketing local products and tourist attractions is also an important part of Proyecto San Gerardo's objectives. We hope to attract many more to enjoy the ''pura vida'' of Costa Rica here in this wonderful corner of the country.
This profile was started as a collaborative effort to raise some money for the project there are contributions from numerous different writers around the world. If you would like to write an article and help the project feel free to contact us!
